Readers of all ages can appreciate Mr. Christie’s beautiful illustrations and the inspiring tale of freedom of expression amidst injustice.

Maria Russo, children’s book editor for The New York Times Book Review, says, “Christie’s art is, as always, breathtaking, uniting folk art and sleek modern gestures with a graceful dynamism that calls to mind Jacob Lawrence and Benny Andrews.”

  1. This is my absolute favorite, but I say that every time I buy one of your books. I live in Baltimore and the cobblestone was so right. I don’t know why it helped to make the story of the square for me, but it did. It seemed to remind me of Savannah and Market place (former slave market in Baltimore). The illustration gave their freedom in the space energy and reminded me of other the stories I know. Brilliant! Congratulations.
