What is GAS-ART GIFTS?
GAS-ART GIFTS offers visitors the unique opportunity to observe a working artist in his studio, take art classes as well as to purchase books and art, all in one place. The bookstore and studio is owned and operated by award-winning children’s book illustrator R. Gregory Christie.
Since founded in Decatur, Georgia on August 1, 2012 we’ve been motivated to bringing art to the youth of the local community. In addition to our products and classes, we also host art parties and events. GAS ART GIFTS will even come to your school or library.

Who is R. Gregory Christie?
R. Gregory Christie currently works as an illustrator. He has illustrated over fifty books for young readers, as well as collaborated with clients such as The United States Post Office, New York City’s Subway System, The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, Vibe, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Kennedy Center, Pete Seeger, Queen Latifah , and Karyn Parsons on a variety of projects.
What does he do?
Mr. Christie creates art and operates his bookstore and art center called GAS ART GIFTS in Decatur, Georgia. Mr. Christie enjoys teaching young people about art and literacy, and is available for school & library visits as well as other community events.
Awards & Honors
Mr. Christie is a two time recipient of the New York Times’ 10 Best Illustrated Children’s Books of the year Award, The Boston Globe’s Horn Book Award, The NAACP’s Image Award, Once Upon a World Children’s Book Award from the Museum of Tolerance and a three time winner of the Coretta Scott King Honor Award in Illustration. His artwork has been featured on HBO Kids, PBS’ Between the Lions, The New Orleans Jazz Festival’s Congo Square poster, for one year on the Metropolitan Transit Authority’s subway system in New York City and has designed the 2013 Kwanzaa stamp for the United States Post office.
